In this tutorial I’ll show you how to finish a neckline with bias tape. We’ll be walking through Step 2 of the Onyx Shirt instructions, but you can follow these steps for any curved seam finished with bias tape. Before I used the techniques shown here, it took me quite a few tries to get this right. I always felt like tutorials made it seem so easy. And yet I could not get the neckline to lay flat, there were wrinkles, just not something I could really be proud of. But I’ve developed/discovered a few tricks that now give me the results I want, and I hope that after this tutorial you can be proud of your bias tape necklines too!
Today I’ll tell you some more on what to look for when choosing a fabric for your Jade skirt. The instructions already give you some information, but let’s elaborate a bit on that.
The Jasper Sweater/Dress V.2.0 comes in both B/C-cup and C/D-cup, depending on the size you choose. If you have a previous version, the two size sets come in a B and a C cup. Even though it is a sweater, it is semi-fitted through the princess seams and it’s possible that you need to do a Full Bust Adjustment (FBA). I’m going to show you how to do this on the Jasper in two posts. First we’ll look at how to determine if you need an FBA and by how much.
Since it’s release last winter I’ve also release a free V-neck add on, because it seemed an obvious option, as other people pointed out by altering it into a V-neck. Since then I have wanted to merge the two just to make it easier for you. I’ve managed to accomplish this in the past few weeks, and the new and updated Opal Coat – & Cardigan is now available in the shop! I’ve also altered the pattern and the instructions to allow for a coatigan version in a woven fabric. The V.2.0 now features three different necklines, three hem lengths, two sleeve lengths and two pocket options. Whew!
When a new pattern appears, some people jump on it right away, and some wait to see other bloggers make it. For me it definitely helps to see a pattern on different bodies and in various fabrics. Sometimes I’m put off by the samples a designer has made, but then am completely convinced when it’s made up by a blogger I follow. So for the Onyx release I asked for reviewers, and the people below volunteered to write something in exchange for a free pattern. I have definitely gotten some ideas myself after seeing these!
