New Pattern: Opal Cardigan

We’re proud to present our new pattern, the Opal Cardigan! And it’s 15% off until Sunday the 14th 2016, 00:00 CET. This garment has filled a hole in my wardrobe and sparked a love for cardigans. I’ve always thought I was a sweater person, but the truth is that I just hadn’t found the right style yet. It can be described best as no fuss with clean lines. It has a relaxed fit so you can throw it over anything if you need the extra layer. It’s just as easy to take off again since it has no buttons or buttonholes. Sewing buttonholes in a stretchy knit can’t be anyones favourite and you won’t have to with the Opal. This makes it a really quick sew as well, to be finished in just a few hours. This cardigan is perfect to throw on if you want to add more dimension to your outfit, or just to stay warm this winter. It’s even better for those days where you’re not sure you’ll need the extra layer since it’s so easy to throw on and off.

The cardigan has a relaxed fit with dropped shoulders. This pattern has no less than three views to choose from: three different lengths, two sleeve lengths and two different pockets that are designed specifically for the shorter and longer lengths. The front openings are finished with bands, as is the neckline. The sleeves have wide cuffs. The hem is finished with a turn and stitch method. If you’ve worked with sweater knits before, you’ll whip one up un no-time. If you haven’t, the instructions and accompanying blogposts include helpful tips on how to reinforce and finish the seams.

Your fabric choice will determine the overall look of your cardigan: you can go for sleek and lightweight or cosy and bulky. The fabrics I’ve chosen for these samples are all knits, but with varying amounts of stretch. The white one has only 10% stretch and acts almost like a woven. The orange one is a course knit that is quite heavy and because it is loose knit, it stretches horizontal as wel as vertical. The pattern is drafted in such a ways that it takes this vertical stretch into account in the longer versions. The grey one is a lightweight knit that acts yet different again. You can read more about how to choose a fabric in this post. Plus, Gorgeous Fabrics has a special sale just for you – get 20% off with the code PAPRIKA20! Valid on all sweater knits until March 15th.

I’ve been wearing my Opals quite a lot – the temperature in the yurt can vary quite a bit because we have a wood stove so I’m taking them on and off all day. My favourite is maybe view B – this length looks best on me and I love that the sleeves keep me warm but they’re not so long that they get in the way. View B has a pocket option too of course, but I wanted to show a minimal version as well. If you make it in a neutral knit it goes with just about anything and will quickly become a wardrobe staple. Well I hope you’ll like the Opal as much as I do!

Go get the pattern here while it’s on sale!
