NEW: Onyx Sleeve Pack

Since the release of the Onyx shirt, I’ve already seen some people lengthening the sleeves. This hack is perfect for transitioning your Onyx into fall, so I thought I’d make it easier for those who’d like that too! I’ve drafted two new sleeve options for the Onyx: 3/4 length and a long sleeve. Both are graded and nested and have a matching optional cuff. Opal: Recommended Fabric (+ Discount!)

Fabric choice is key for every pattern, but even more so for the Opal Cardigan. You can make your choice based on what kind of style you are looking for, or whether you’re a sweater knit rookie or an expert. I’ve used three very different fabrics for my samples to show what the fabric choice can do with the fit and the style of the cardigan. The recommended fabric section in the instructions lists sweater knit, but if you find a nice ponte or French terry you can use that too. I’ve used a lightweight knit for View A, a medium weight and coarse knit fro View B, and a heavy textured 70% wool knit for View C. They are all made in size B, graded out at the hips to C. SIM – Onyx With a Lace Lining by Dixie DIY

On this last day of Sewing Indie Month, I’m excited to welcome Dixie from Dixie DIY Patterns to our blog! Dixie was among the first blogs I started following. She was also one of the first to publish her own PDF patterns, and her series on how to start an Indie Pattern Company were a huge help when I started out. She’s prepared a fun Onyx hack for today. Hi Paprika and SIM readers! I’m Dixie from Dixie DIY Patterns and I’m quite excited to share this nifty little Onyx Shirt hack with you. I used the Onyx Shirt as a base and did something a little different – I added a lining with lace attached to the hem. I like this look better than just sewing lace to the hem of a shirt because it looks like you’re wearing two separate tops and the layers move independent of one another.

Showcase: Tweed Jade Skirt

The great thing about sewing patterns in my opinion is that they’re just a starting point. You can play with them until you have something that makes the final garment even more awesome than the original design. Every time I come across someone who has done just that with one of our patterns it makes me so excited. I absolutely love playing a part in bringing someones imagination into reality. Zircon: Recommended Fabric (+ Discount!)

Let’s zoom in on what fabrics are suitable for the Zircon Sweater/Dress.The recommended fabric section in the instructions lists sweater fleece, neoprene, fleece and quilted jersey. French terry’s, jacquard and interlock or double knits can also be suitable, but with these you definitely have to check the amount of stretch. What You Made: Jade Skirt

Round-ups of a pattern are so fun, don’t you think? It’s so hgelpful to see a pattern in different fabrics and on different bodies.
